Meeting minutes template
Short minutes that record what was decided and who does what, without a transcript nobody reads.
When to use it
- Team meetings and planning sessions
- Any meeting where a decision was made
- Meetings with people who couldn't attend
The template
[Meeting name], [date] Present: [names] Decisions - [decision] Action items - [who]: [what] by [when] - [who]: [what] by [when] Open questions - [question] (owner: [who]) Next meeting: [day, time]
Filled in
The same template for a fictional team.
Q4 launch planning, Oct 21 Present: Mira, Leo, Ana, Dev Decisions - Launch moves to Nov 12 so the onboarding emails are ready. - We drop the webinar and do a recorded demo instead. Action items - Leo: final launch checklist by Oct 28. - Ana: record the demo by Nov 4. - Dev: set up the launch page analytics by Nov 6. Open questions - Do we email the full waitlist or a first batch? (owner: Mira) Next meeting: Tuesday, 9:30am
Tips
- Write decisions as sentences someone could act on without having been there.
- One owner per action item. 'The team' is not an owner.
- Share the minutes within an hour, while people can still correct them.
